Woman Rescues Kitten Sitting on Sidewalk When Others Just Pass Her By - the Kitty Can't Stop Purring

A kitten was found sitting on a sidewalk. No one stopped for her until a woman saw her and refused to leave her behind.

Carmen Weinberg, founder of Animal Friends Project, was at a mobile home park in Lake Worth, Florida last week when she spotted a tiny ball of fur on the sidewalk. As she approached it, it became clear to her that it was a kitten who was all by herself without a mother in sight.

The kitten was sitting in front of the office frequented by the residents there. "Dozens of people drive by or walk by that place," Carmen shared with Love Meow. "They saw the kitten and chose to walk away."

"I knew she wanted to be seen. She wanted help."

The scrawny little tabby was in rough shape and needed immediate medical attention. She ran under a car nearby but didn't go far. Carmen set a humane trap with food inside right by the vehicle.

As soon as the kitten smelled the food, she emerged from under the car and just walked right in to the trap. Even though the door shut behind her, it didn't bother her a bit because she was so glad to have found something to eat.

"Once I took her out of the trap to examine her, she completely relaxed, like she was relieved she was finally safe," Carmen told Love Meow.

"She can't get enough of pets. She was starved of love and attention."

The kitten was infested with fleas and lice, had parasites and appeared to be anemic. Carmen gave her a much-needed bath and began treating and supplementing her to help her get back on her paws.

The tabby girl was so grateful to have someone to care for her. She cuddled right up to Carmen.

"She purred the whole time while I was drying her after her bath."

They named her Estrella and she was finally on the mend, recovering in a comfortable home.

"She wants love and she is getting plenty of that."

Her purr motor is constantly rumbling whenever she is with her caregiver.

She immediately curls up into a ball and purrs when she is petted.

Her eyes are all cleared up and she's free of fleas and lice. She's working on gaining some healthy weight and making up for lost love.

"I'm giving her kitten formula mixed with vitamins and she loves that," Carmen told Love Meow.

"No more neglect for this girl. Estrella is shining brightly," Carmen said.

Woman caught on camera dumping 10 cats, elderly dog on side of the road in Ruskin

RUSKIN, Fla. -- Authorities in Hillsborough County are investigating after a woman dumped her pets on the side of the road in Ruskin.

According to C.A.R.E. Animal Shelter, or Critter Adoption and Rescue Effort, the woman tried to surrender 10 cats and one elderly dog Tuesday morning along 27th Street. The Ruskin-based operation is a no-kill facility and had to turn her away because their shelter is full.

"If you have a pet, you can not dump them," said Sherry Silk. "Somebody should come forward and say something."

Silk is the chief executive officer of The Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

Silk tells ABC Action News, pet owners dumping animals is on the rise in Hillsborough County. Just last week, someone tossed a four-week old kitten out of a moving car along Columbus Drive.

There is a $6,000 reward to find out who threw "Columbo" into the street.

“I guess the woman that was on the sidewalk, she screamed," said Silk. "They got the kitten before it could get hit again.”

Anyone caught abandoning their pet is subject to a fine and/or jail time. Those convicted will also land on the county's animal abuser registry.

If there are no other options, Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center is the only open admissions facility in the county.

Cat Pulled From Burning Murrieta Home, Saved With Special Mask

Fire officials say the blaze ripped through a Murrieta home early Monday morning

MURRIETA, CA — Murrieta fire officials are investigating the cause Monday of an early morning blaze that ripped through a local home, Murrieta Fire & Rescue reports. Though no injuries were reported in the fire, crews did use a specialized pet oxygen mask to help save a cat that was found unresponsive inside the burning building.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 27000 block of Tube Rose Street, in the Greer Ranch area, according to fire officials and witness reports.

When crews got to the scene, they found the fire first in the garage. It soon spread to the home's attic and the roof eventually partially collapsed, witnesses reported.

Pulled from the home was a black cat, which was not moving at the time. Thanks to the care of firefighters and a special oxygen mask designed just for pets, the cat was alert and responsive again within about 15 minutes.

Crews from both Murrieta and the Riverside County Fire Department's Temecula area helped contain the fire in about two hours.

Hundreds of Living, Dead Cats Removed from ‘Toxic’ Central Iowa Residence

IOWA -- The Animal Rescue League of Iowa removed hundreds of living and dead cats from multiple buildings at a central Iowa residence Tuesday, according to a post on the organization's Facebook.

Nearly 100 living cats and nearly 200 dead cats were recovered. Cats are still being rescued from the residence.

The ARL said they observed dozens of cats pressed up against open windows, trying to get fresh air. Air quality levels were so toxic inside the house that rescuers were required to wear respirators and protective suits and only remain in the house for 30 minutes at a time.

According to the ARL, multiple feet of feces and garbage covered every square inch of the home, including kitchen counters. They said dead cats filled refrigerators and freezers, sitting alongside the owner’s food.

“This is by far the worst hoarding case ARL Iowa has seen in more than 10 years. It’s absolutely horrendous. I don’t even have the words to describe how bad this is.” said ARL CEO Tom Colvin. “We were already over capacity prior to this rescue with more than 1,100 cats in our care, so we are going to need a lot of help from the public with this one.”

The ARL has not yet released the address of the residence but said more information will be released Wednesday.

Donations to help the cats can be made here.

Bullied Boy Rescues A Cat With Rare Eye Condition And Cleft Lip Just Like Him, And Their Friendship Is Adorable

Having things in common is is the reason why the most part of friendships exist. Shared experiences and journeys, common interests in books, movies or TV shows are just few of the reasons. But there are times where deep and beautiful friendships are formed because of a common disease or disability. If you’ve seen the movie “The Fault in Our Stars”, you probably know what I mean.

Being different can be isolating, but these differences help us gravitate to the friends we need most. Just like this seven year old boy from Oklahoma named Madden. He was born with a cleft lip and complete heterochromia iridium, a condition where the eyes have different colors. Complete heterochromia iridium is a rare condition, affecting less than 1% of the population. Because of Madden’s condition, fitting in with kids his age was a struggle. The bullying he experienced at his young age was enough to break his spirit.

One day, a friend posted an image of a rescue cat in a cleft moms’ support group. With just one look at the cat’s picture, Madden’s mom knew the cat was meant to be a part of their family. It was hard to believe, but the cat had the same conditions as Madden. The cat, named Moon, didn’t only have a cleft lip, he also had complete heterochromia iridium. It was like a match made in heaven.

It was the kindness of both friends and strangers that helped Madden and his family travel from Oklahoma to Minnesota. Because of those small acts of kindness from different people, Moon was brought to his new home.

Even though Moon was a rescue cat from the streets of Minnesota, he was the one who rescued Madden from his loneliness. Having a pet with his same rare conditions helped Madden feel understood and less alone. Moon helped Madden realize that being different doesn’t make him a freak, it just makes him unique.

Madden’s mom is confident that Moon will help her son’s confidence soar, allowing him to extend love and kindness to those who hurl unkind words towards him.

If you want to see more of Madden and Moon’s adorable and inspiring friendship, you can visit their Instagram.

Cat who can’t stop sneezing searches for forever home

A CAT cannot find an owner because he is always sneezing.

Nine-year-old Elliot has been searching for a home for some time after being handed into Cats Protection’s national adoption centre near Hayward’s Heath.

But staff there say his heavy sneezing may have put off some potential owners.

He has chronic rhinitis which means he is particularly “snuffly”.

As a result, the tabby cat is prone to bursts of sneezing

Staff at the centre, in Lewes Road, Chelwood Gate, say he has a lot of love to give a new owner.

The centre’s deputy manager, Tania Marsh, said: “Elliott is definitely very snuffly and his condition means he has some damage to the bones in his nose.

“But, this doesn’t bother him and he is a happy, affectionate chap.”

Ms Marsh said that this should not bother new owners either.

She said: “We think his condition has put off some people from adopting him, which is a shame as would make a lovely pet.

“We’re looking for a patient owner who can give Elliott the loving home he desperately needs.

“Cats with health conditions may seem like a daunting prospect at first, but in many cases they can be managed well with the right care.

“Cats like Elliott deserve a safe, warm home as much as any other cat, and we hope we can find a new owner for him soon.”

Cats Protection is the UK’s largest rehoming centre.
It aims to rehome cats as well as encouraging the neutering of cats and educating others about looking after the animals.

Founded in 1927, the charity now helps about 200,000 cats each year through its 250 volunteer-run branches and 36 centres across the UK.

Its aim is to create “a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs”.

[R.I.P.] ‘Pet Sematary’ Star Leo the Cat Has Passed Away

A total of four Maine Coon cats came together to bring Church back to the big screen in Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch’s Pet Sematary, with cats Tonic and Leo primarily playing the iconic cat in this year’s new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel; Tonic played the role of a living Church while Leo took over whenever Church was required to be, well, undead.

We’ve learned the sad news tonight that Leo has passed away.

After filming wrapped on Pet Sematary, trainer Kirk Jarrett adopted Leo and gave him his own Instagram account, which racked up over 15k followers. Jarrett frequently posted fun photos of Leo, including shots from the set of Pet Sematary. He had noted in a recent interview, prior to the film’s release: “Leo is a confident sit-stay cat. His role is as the undead Church; that was his whole purpose, to be the poster child. The cat you see all across the different platforms, and in the trailer, almost any time he’s in in the undead makeup—that was Leo.”

Jarrett wrote over on the Instagram account tonight, “It is with great sadness that we tell you that Leo has passed away. He will forever be missed by his human and fur family.”
